We Need Help!

Our youth sports programs are in dire need of officials. Anyone who is 14 years or older and has a general knowledge of the rules for baseball, softball and/or soccer can officiate. Folks who are interested must attend a county sponsored training clinic prior to the season. Their names are placed on a county list and local coordinators will assign them to games. Officials are paid between $13-$25 per game by the County Youth Bureau.

Help us to keep our children’s sports experience a fun, positive & memorable one. We encourage teens, adults and retirees to join us in providing a top-notch program for the youth of our town. If interested please call Melanie or Janet at 562-6860 or the County Youth Bureau, 565-4750.

Seniors

Senior Citizen Recreation

Since 1979, the Town Recreation Department has sponsored a recreation program for senior citizens.  This program has two satellite centers that are open for group meetings and activities.  At each center, the group holds a potluck luncheon one week per month and on other weeks they work on crafts that are popular with the group.  Many of these projects are as unique as the individuals that make up the group.  Projects that they have undertaken include:  doll making, needle work, ceramics, woodworking, leather crafts, quilting and copper plating.  One of the two satellite groups meets on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the May Currier Park at 305 Tom Miller Road.  The other satellite group meets at the Treadwells Mills Park at 1403 Military Turnpike on Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The combined groups, together, usually take four to  six individual day trips for pleasure and/or historical purposes.  These trips are open to all senior citizens of the Town.  You do not have to participate in either group to go.  Just watch the Press and listen on WIRY radio for further information.  The groups also come together for parties around St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

If you are over 55 and enjoy arts and crafts, traveling the local area, games, and social activities, or just shooting the breeze with people your own age, stop by the Centers on Tuesday or Wednesday and join in the fun -- or, why not drop by both and give each one a try!

The Cost?  Absolutely Nothing!  So, why not try it?
