Whispering Maples Update
December 16, 2016
The work on the construction bidding process for the restoration of Whispering Maples continues as of today. Bids are currently being analyzed by the engineering and other consultants. Additionally, consultants for the Towns met with the New York State Cemetery Board in Albany on December 15, 2016 to discuss the ongoing process of bidding and work at the mausoleums. The meeting was an opportunity to brief state officials on the progress and assistance needed in the weeks and months ahead.
The Receiver continues her work and an environmental testing firm is currently conducting reviews of the properties to complete the bidding process in advance of any construction activities. This work should be ongoing for the next couple of weeks.
Plattsburgh and Ellenburg continue to work with the Office of the Attorney General on the scope and duration of the receivership. Updating and recreation of administrative files is also continuing.
There will be more information and action items to report after the start of the New Year.
In the meantime, it is important to remind those visiting the mausoleums that once work commences, all personal items will need to be removed from the facilities. Also, if you own space or have loved ones in the mausoleums, please be sure to contact the cemetery office in Ellenburg at (518) 594-7500 to provide them with your current contact information so that we may have it on file.
