Town Clerk - Marriage Licenses |
|
If you plan to get married in New York State, you may purchase a license in any town, city, or village in New York. The fee is $40.00. There is a 24-hour waiting period from when the license is issued until the marriage can take place, and the license is valid for 60 days after it is issued. Both parties must be present for the license to be issued. A birth document and a current picture ID, such as a drive’s license, are both required as identification. If you have been previously married, we require a copy of the divorce decree from each marriage, clearly showing the date of decree. Once the marriage takes place, the Officiant will return the license to our office and your New York State Department of Health Marriage Certificate will be issued. The process usually takes about two weeks, but we can do it more quickly if you return your license in person. Copies of Marriage Licenses issued by the Plattsburgh Town Clerk can be obtained at our office or by filling out an application and mailing it to us.
