Proposed change to STAR: The 2013-14 State Budget includes a proposal that would require all Basic STAR recipients to register with the State Department in order to receive or continue receiving STAR. The new registration would apply only to Basic STAR recipients. The program would apply to 2014 STAR exemptions. Taxpayers do not need to take any action now. Existing Basic STAR recipients will be notified directly by the State Tax Department when it is time to re-register.
